NEWS ALERT!
"SAIGON KIDS: An American Military Brat Comes of Age in 1960's Vietnam," by Les Arbuckle, is NOW AVAILABLE wherever books are sold or at Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobles.com, Indie Books, Powell's Books, Books A Million, and other fine online retailers.
"Saigon Kids" recalls the lives of my family and friends as we struggled to lead a normal life in an absurdly abnormal and often dangerous situation.
The Military, Foreign Service, and Diplomatic Corp Brats who lived in Saigon, Vietnam prior to the beginning of America's full involvement in the Vietnam War, occupy a unique place in US history. We lived, not on a military base, but amongst the Vietnamese population, and this made us eye-witnesses to events that shocked the world.
We Brats came of age during the Kennedy Years of the Cold War, when hope and optimism was in the air. But in Saigon, every ray of hope was followed only by chaos, turmoil and death.
In spite of the ugliness that was a feature of everyday life in Saigon, no Brat I knew wanted to leave.
This is not just my story, it is their story.
I hope you enjoy it.
Les Arbuckle, 2017
